About this product
What is bovine collagen?
Collagen is the structural protein found in the connective tissue of animals. Hydrolysing it breaks the long protein into short peptides, which is what makes this powder dissolve readily and taste of nothing. Ours is a Type I and III bovine collagen peptide from grass-fed cattle in Brazil, and it is at least 90% protein by dry weight.
How it is made
Collagen is extracted from bovine hide, hydrolysed into peptides and spray-dried into a fine, free-flowing powder.
What it tastes like
Tasteless and odourless, which is the point. The powder is white to off-white and dissolves in water without clumping.
How to use bovine collagen
Stir a scoop into coffee, tea, water or a smoothie; it dissolves in hot or cold liquid and does not change the flavour. It also disappears into soups, porridge and baking.
Quality and sourcing
Not organic. Free-flowing powder, soluble in water, pH 6.0 to 7.7 in a 2% solution. Tested to specification for heavy metals and microbiology. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Our standards
Every van Mel & Co. product is a single ingredient or a short, declared blend, with nothing added that is not on the label. Each one is supplied against a written specification that sets out its origin, sensory character, microbiological limits and allergen status. Where a product is certified organic, the certifying body is named in the specification. We pack in Stellenbosch and ship across South Africa in 100 g, 1 kg and 10 kg.
