About this product
What is reishi powder?
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is a glossy, fan-shaped mushroom that grows in warm, humid parts of Asia and has a long history in East Asian cooking and tea-making. Ours is made from the fruiting body only, grown organically, dried and ground. The powder is around two-thirds fibre.
How it is made
The mushrooms are dried below 40 °C and sorted in the country of origin. In Germany they are analysed, vacuum-cleaned and X-rayed, put through a germ-reduction step, ground to an 80 mesh powder, passed through metal detection and packed.
What it tastes like
Distinctly bitter and woody, with an earthy depth. This is not a mushroom for hiding in a smoothie; it suits a hot drink where the bitterness can be balanced.
How to use reishi powder
Simmer 2 to 4 g in hot water for ten minutes as a tea, or stir it into coffee or hot chocolate where milk and a little sweetness round it out. Cinnamon and ginger are natural partners.

Our standards
Every van Mel & Co. product is a single ingredient or a short, declared blend, with nothing added that is not on the label. Each one is supplied against a written specification that sets out its origin, sensory character, microbiological limits and allergen status. Where a product is certified organic, the certifying body is named in the specification. We pack in Stellenbosch and ship across South Africa in 100 g, 1 kg and 10 kg.
