About this product

What is alfalfa powder?

Alfalfa is a legume grown across Europe, and its young leaves have long been dried and used as a green. Ours is grown organically in Austria and milled into a fine, light green powder. It is 100% alfalfa leaf.

How it is made

The leaves are dried and ground to a fine powder. Nothing is added.

What it tastes like

Mild and grassy, with a fresh, hay-like aroma and none of the bitterness of some greens. The colour is a light green.

How to use alfalfa powder

Blend a teaspoon into a green smoothie or vegetable juice, stir it into soups, or mix it into dressings and dips. It sits comfortably alongside spinach and kale powders and softens their edges.

Quality and sourcing

Certified organic under EU Regulation 2018/848 (certifier NL-BIO-01). Not irradiated and GMO-free. Shelf life of 24 months from production. Store at around 20 °C, protected from warmth, humidity and light.

Our standards

Every van Mel & Co. product is a single ingredient or a short, declared blend, with nothing added that is not on the label. Each one is supplied against a written specification that sets out its origin, sensory character, microbiological limits and allergen status. Where a product is certified organic, the certifying body is named in the specification. We pack in Stellenbosch and ship across South Africa in 100 g, 1 kg and 10 kg.
