About this product

What is camu camu powder?

Camu camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a shrub that grows in the flooded lowlands of the Amazon basin. Its cherry-sized berries are among the sourest fruits there are. Ours are grown organically in Peru and made into a fine powder from the fruit pulp.

How it is made

The berries are cleaned and disinfected, then cut to separate the pulp from the seed. The pulp is dehydrated at no more than 45 °C to preserve its character, milled, passed through metal detection and packed. Low-temperature drying is what keeps the flavour so lively.

What it tastes like

Sour first, then a gentle bitterness, with a light fruity aroma. The colour is a reddish brown. Because the sourness is so pronounced, this is a powder to measure in pinches rather than spoons.

How to use camu camu powder

Add a small amount to fruit juice, smoothies or lemonade for a sharp citrus-like edge. It works well in salad dressings and marinades, and a pinch in a fruit salad brings out the sweetness of the other fruit.
