About this product
What is sea buckthorn powder?
Sea buckthorn is a hardy shrub that fruits in dense clusters of small orange berries. It grows well in the cold Finnish climate. The berries are unusual among fruit in being naturally oily as well as sharp, and the whole berry is used, so the powder carries both.
How it is made
The whole berries are dried and milled to a powder. Nothing is added and nothing is removed, so the natural oil content of the fruit remains in the powder, which gives it a slightly richer texture than most fruit powders.
What it tastes like
Sharp and tangy with a distinctive, almost tropical sourness and a soft, rounded finish from the fruit's natural oils. The colour is a vivid orange.
How to use sea buckthorn powder
Because it is so sharp, a little is enough. Half a teaspoon in a glass of juice or a smoothie adds a bright, sour edge. It is excellent in salad dressings and marinades, whisked into honey, or stirred through yoghurt with something sweet alongside.
Quality and sourcing
Certified organic (FI-EKO-201). Not irradiated. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
