About this product

What is flax seed protein powder?

Flax seed protein powder is the milled press cake left after flax oil is extracted. Removing the oil concentrates the protein and fibre; this powder is around 35% protein and 39% fibre. Ours is grown organically in the EU and is a single ingredient.

How it is made

The seeds are pressed to remove the oil and the press cake is milled to a fine, floury powder.

What it tastes like

Mild, nutty and aromatic with the familiar flavour of flax, and a fine, floury texture. The colour is brownish.

How to use flax seed protein powder

This powder is for cooking and baking and should not be eaten raw. Use it to replace part of the flour in bread, muffins, crackers and pancakes, or stir it into porridge and cook through. It also binds well in veggie burgers and meatballs. Mixed with water it forms a gel that can stand in for eggs in baking.

Quality and sourcing

Our standards

Every van Mel & Co. product is a single ingredient or a short, declared blend, with nothing added that is not on the label. Each one is supplied against a written specification that sets out its origin, sensory character, microbiological limits and allergen status. Where a product is certified organic, the certifying body is named in the specification. We pack in Stellenbosch and ship across South Africa in 100 g, 1 kg and 10 kg.
